| Comments: | Bull Shark occurs worldwide in tropical to warm-temperature sea, and occasionally in fresh water. There is a verified record from the late 1930s of an adult Bull Shark captured in the Mississippi River as far north as St. Louis, Missouri. In Florida, individuals occasionally enter the Apalachicola River. The unusual ability of this species to enter and live in fresh water is a function of its highly modified renal gland. This shark is often caught on hook and line, but it does not rise to the surface and leap as do some of the other members of the family. Several attacks on people have been reported. |
